SIGA Slate was carefully selected for the renovation of Hounds Road, a private residential property in Chipping Sodbury, Bristol.

The roofing renovation took place on an old stone farmhouse and storage building, and was carried out by Cains building services Ltd of Kingswood, Bristol. In total, approximately 4,200 500x250 slates were laid over a 210m2 area. SIGA’s take off service was utilised to assist with quantities and ensure accuracy.

Hounds Road is in an area where roofing materials require Welsh Park Conservation Officer approval, and SIGA 32 was chosen as an approved alternative to Welsh slate, originally used in the area. The roofscape required a high end finish, which SIGA 32 offers aesthetically, as its blue/grey colouring replicates closely historical Welsh quarries, such as Ffestiniog.

Due to the type of building being renovated, longevity of the slate used was an essential prerequisite in the decision making process. SIGA 32 provided this, with its warranty of 75 years, backed by SIG, a FTSE250 company, and its T1S1A1 rating.

SIGA 32 is one of the strongest, hardest slates available from Spain and combines excellent durability with a rugged, natural texture. SIGA 32 is available in two different thicknesses, suitable for all parts of the UK.

The renovation was completed on time, thanks to SIGA’s speed of delivery from the date of order, made possible by their excellent infrastructure and stock holding.

Commenting on the completed renovation, the client, Carl Butcher, said he was “delighted with the look and finish of the project”. Continuing, he added: “The slate perfectly complements not only the local area but also the timber windows on the building, which were supplied by SIG.” So pleased was Carl, with SIGA and SIG, that he also used SIG to supply the clay pantiles on the next phase of the development.

With warranties of up to 75 years on selected ranges, SIGA slate offers the widest range of true A1T1S1 slates, carefully tailored for each part of the UK, and available nationwide. A popular choice with homeowners, self-builders and developers, the SIGA Specification range of slates meet NHBC requirements and provide a selection of high-quality first-selection slates, covering a broad range of colours and textures to fulfil almost any specification desired.
