RAVENHEAT’S ‘ENERGY CATCHER’ GETS THUMBS UP FROM WESTMINSTER

Ravenheat’s pioneering and award-winning flue heat recovery system - Energycatcher™ - that can help reduce home heating bills by up to 52%, got the thumbs up from two senior politicians last week when they visited the company’s headquarters in West Yorkshire.

In her quest to learn more about energy saving boiler technology, Shadow Energy Secretary, Caroline Flint, joined Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls, at Ravenheat’s offices, located in his constituency of Morley and Outwood. The visit took place on Friday 6th December 2013.

Once there, the MPs met with Louis Pickersgill, Founder and Managing Director of the independent boiler manufacturer that was established in 1987, and as well as being shown Energycatcher™, they previewed Ravenheat’s latest range of energy efficient gas boilers. After a tour of the laboratory viewing products in design construction and the distribution and warehouse facilities, the MPs joined a gas boiler training session for heating installers.

Commenting on the visit, Ed Balls MP said: “Faced with a real cost of living crisis, working families are on average £1,600 worse off than in 2010. Prices are set to rise faster than wages until 2015 and, faced with rising energy bills, we need to do more to support people trying to make ends meet over the winter months. I’m proud that here in my constituency, Ravenheat, a local Morley company, are doing their bit to support households who want to make their home heating system more efficient by upgrading their boiler and saving money on running costs.”

Shadow Energy Secretary, Caroline Flint said: “Last week in his Autumn Statement. we saw the Chancellor let the energy companies off scot-free. There was no announcement of reforms to the energy market and they have again ignored Labour’s call for a price freeze to help customers. Energy efficiency is a really important way for people to reduce their energy bills and it’s encouraging to see the work that firms like Ravenheat are doing to help make that happen.”

A small unit that simply integrates on the top of the boiler, Energycatcher™ cleverly uses latent heat that is normally lost from a condensing boiler to help heat the domestic hot water supply. It is recognised by the Energy Saving Trust as one of the simplest and most effective ways to further improve the efficiency of a domestic gas boiler.

The system recycles the latent heat in exhaust flue gases. Whenever the boiler is working the exhaust flue gases, instead of going straight out to the atmosphere, are fed into the Energycatcher, where they flow over a patented heat exchanger, using the latent heat to pre-heat incoming mains water.

Energycatcher is a compact unit measuring just 400 x 300 x 270mm, which can be fitted on almost any domestic gas boiler (subject to the manufacturer’s approval). Because Energycatcher has no moving parts there is no maintenance requirement.

Founded in 1987, Ravenheat is an independent boiler manufacturer with head offices, R&D and training facilities in Leeds and manufacturing operations in Verona, Italy. Over the years, the company has pioneered many advances in boiler technology, including the first-ever condensing boiler in 1996 and more recently, the award-winning Energycatcher™ that delivers savings on hot water. With full control over the design and production of products to the highest standards, Ravenheat continues to push the boundaries of energy efficiency by developing low-cost heat and hot water solutions, without the need to invest in expensive renewable technologies.
