Ferrets Combine the Best of Both Worlds: Cat Cleanliness and Dog Friendliness
Petco™’s Monthly “Meet the Critters” Event Aims to Educate Guests on Successful Ferret Pet Parenting
San Diego, CA (September 2011) – Many people would describe themselves as either a “cat person” or a “dog person,” without ever knowing there is a fantastic companion animal that has the best of both worlds. Petco™ aims to educate guests about the ins and outs of ferret pet parenting during their monthly “Meet the Critters” event on September 3-4, 2011 from 1-2 p.m. Like cats, ferrets are generally clean, sleep a lot and can easily be trained to use a litter box. However, like dogs, ferrets have a playful side, are very intelligent and can be taught to rollover and fetch. This combination makes ferrets the perfect choice for both dog and cat lovers.
During the two-day, family-friendly Meet the Critters event, attendees can interact with ferrets, as well as learn diet, behavior and habitat information from one of Petco trained employees. The free, monthly educational event allows guests of all ages to enjoy these hands-on activities while learning important information about responsible pet ownership.
Interesting ferret facts include:
-All ferrets are born white and develop their color at about three weeks old.
-The scientific name for ferrets is, “mustela putorius furo,” which translates to “stinky little thief.”
-Ferrets are born deaf and begin to hear at or around 34 days.
-A female ferret is called a Jill and a male ferret is called a Hob.
-Although many assume ferrets are rodents, they are members of the weasel family; however they have relatively nothing in common with the weasel.
For more information on the event please contact a local Petco or go to http://www.petco.com/critters. Not all Petco locations will feature the ferret. Those not featuring the ferret will instead focus on the guinea pig. For specific information on individual Meet the Critters events, please contact the local Petco location.
