Meet the Leopard Gecko During Nationwide Educational Event
San Diego, CA (July 9-10, 2011) – With the summer heat in full swing, the only solution is to try to avoid it. During PETCO’s “Meet the Critters” storewide event, there will be a chance to meet the Leopard Gecko, a nocturnal animal with the same ‘beat the heat’ mentality as they stay clear of the heat of the day. During this free educational event families will learn interesting facts about this unique gecko as well as get to hold it in the cool comfort of an air conditioned store.
Here are just a few interesting facts about the Leopard Gecko and why PETCO is featuring them as part of their monthly “Meet the Critters” events:
-This reptile uses its tail to store fat in case of food shortages.
-Many geckos lack eyelids, but not the leopard ones! They can even blink and close their eyes while sleeping, making them seem even more human-like.
-With a life expectancy of 10 or more years, this animal can be considered a real part of the family.
They are available in different colors and patterns making each one unique looking.
-They don’t only eat crickets, the love a wide variety of insects including mealworms, superworms and waxworms.
"Meet the Critters” is a free educational event that allows guests of all ages to enjoy hands-on activities while learning about a variety of unique and interesting pets from reptiles to rabbits.
