PETCO™ & the San Diego Padres to Set Guinness World Record at Annual Dog Days of Summer Event

San Diego, CA (July 2011) – Guinness World Records® Officials will be at PETCO's annual "Dog Days of Summer" event at PETCO Park in San Diego as PETCO attempts to set the world record for most dogs at a costume parade. Dogs and their human counterparts will participate in the annual infield parade prior to the start of the game. To be included in the record, pets must wear a minimum of two accessories such as a t-shirt or bandana. Attire demonstrating Padre spirit is strongly encouraged. The record setting attempt will take place during the pregame pet parade on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 7:05 pm as the San Diego Padres take on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

 “Last year’s event was our biggest and best yet and we are excited to set the record for the most dogs at a costume parade this year,” said Greg Seremetis, Vice President of Marketing for PETCO. “At PETCO we are passionate about having our dogs active in all aspects of our life and, thanks to our partnership with the San Diego Padres, this includes inviting hundreds of dogs out to the ballpark.”    

Participating dogs will also have the opportunity to attend a pre-game “tail” gate party and, during the on-field pet parade, prizes will be awarded to the costumed dogs in a variety of categories. Once the game has commenced, dogs and their parents are invited to cheer on the Padres from the Park at the Park. In the spirit of PETCO’s commitment to “Think Adoption First,” a local adoption partner will be in attendance to place homeless pets in loving forever homes and educate game attendees on the importance of pet adoption.  

Applications are no longer being accepted. Only dogs with a valid “dog ticket” will be allowed to attend. Dogs who were approved to attend showed proof of current vaccinations and valid animal license. PETCO will provide animal care staff on the day of the event.
