Bremen event highlights for 2025
The Hanseatic City on the Weser is jam packed with a variety of different experiences. Once again in 2025, the calendar is chock-a-block with all sorts of exciting events. We have put together a small selection.
NEW: City Lights from 03–19 January 2025
The City Lights will be bathing the city centre in a colourful sea of light installations and creative works of art until mid-January 2025. The event transforms the centre of Bremen into an open-air gallery of light. Light artists have styled the façades of various important buildings based on the theme of ‘four seasons’. As of 16:30 every evening, visitors can enjoy a gentle stroll around the beautifully illuminated streets and squares of the Hanseatic City.
Bremen Classic Motor Show from 31 January – 2 February 2025
The last weekend in January is the time for all classic car enthusiasts. The Bremen Classic Motor Show is the first major classic car event of the year in Germany, bringing together an impressive range of vintage cars, modern classics and other historic vehicles. As well as the exhibitions, there are also nail-biting auctions, specialist talks and panel discussions.
LightUp! In the Rhododendron-Park from 7 February – 2 March 2025
One of the highlights of spring is LightUp!, which, once again in 2025, transforms the largest rhododendron garden in the world into a glittering oasis of light. From dusk onwards, visitors can admire the creative lighting and works of art produced specially for the event. It is a unique showcase for more than 10,000 rhododendron and azalea bushes covering an area of more than 110 acres.
Bremen Carnival from 21–22 February 2025
The Bremen Carnival reaches its annual culmination, once again offering everything the heart desires, with lots of bright colours, cheerful sounds and samba beats! Participants and visitors from all over the world gather together to mark the end of an extraordinary festival, with fantastic costumes, amazing dance groups and multicultural panache transforming Bremen into a bustling hub of cultural diversity.
La Strada from 13–15 June 2025
La Strada is an international festival of street circus and theatre art that magically converts the streets of Bremen into an amazing performance theatre. Artists and performers put on spectacular displays to capture the hearts of those watching. From jugglers to high-wire artists, from living statues to enchanting theatre, La Strada offers entertainment for all ages and all tastes.
Seebühne Bremen from 27 June 2025
The Seebühne Bremen comes to life again in summer. Visitors can enjoy a varied programme of breathtaking music, theatre and other performances. The open-air location offers everything from classical music through to rock and comedy. Some acts have already been confirmed in the event calendar. A massive fireworks display marks the end of a spectacular season.
Breminale from 9–13 July 2025
One of the most spectacular free open-air cultural festivals in Germany is back again in 2025! Visitors can look forward to five days full of music, art and conviviality at the picturesque Osterdeichwiesen park right on the banks of the Weser. With music ranging from rock to electro pop, art installations and performances and local and international food, Breminale is definitely worth a visit.
International Festival Maritim from 1–3 August 2025
In the first week of August every year, the International Festival Maritim transforms the Vegesack district of Bremen into a huge open-air venue on the water, with maritime rock, folk, punk, sea shanties and lots more played out across eight different stages. Visitors can look forward to more than 30 international bands and numerous street musicians across the pedestrianised areas, streets and cafés.
GFNY Bremen on 31 August 2025
The cycling event of the year! Visitors can watch as amateur cyclists from all over the world vie for position along two exciting 110- and 60-kilometre routes. It is a chance to be part of the GFNY World Championship, a global race series which has its roots in the bustling streets of New York and is now creating a stir in Bremen!
Freimarkt from 17 October – 2 November 2025
The Bremen Freimarkt is one of the oldest fairs in Germany and is opening its doors for an unforgettable celebration of joy and tradition. Every day, from 10:00 to 23:00, the grounds become the venue for some amazing festivities. From retro merry-go-rounds to state-of-the-art rollercoasters, there are thrills and spills for all ages. It also boasts foodie treats, live music and a varied programme of entertainment. Ischa Freimaak, as they say in Bremen!
Christmas market and Schlachte-Zauber from 24 November – 23 December 2025
The traditional Christmas market and Schlachte-Zauber is one of the most heart-warming events of the year, combining historic flair with a carnival atmosphere. The lighting and decorations transform the streets and squares of the Hanseatic city into a Christmas paradise. There is also a range of culinary treats, arts and crafts and musical entertainment, all right in front of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and on the banks of the Weser.

Bremen is a Hanseatic City on the Weser in the North of Germany. The city has its own airport and great connections to the railway network. From London Heathrow (LHR), you can get to Bremen (BRE) with Lufthansa in only 3 hours and 50 minutes, with just one stop. From London Stansted (STN), you have also non-stop flights with Ryanair.
