Bremen’s free festivals promise an unforgettable summer in the city

Anyone visiting Bremen this summer can look forward to a varied calendar of events. From June to August, free open air events including ‘La Strada’ and the ‘Breminale’ offer music, art and foodie treats to suit all tastes, and allow visitors to immerse themselves in the open-minded, relaxed vibe of the Hanseatic city.

International street art festival ‘La Strada’ kicks off the event season

The international street art festival La Strada from 11 to 14 June makes for a fantastic start. Artists from all over the world bring a touch of magic to the streets and squares of Bremen, with artistic displays, exciting plays and captivating dance performances. La Strada is a lively event for all ages, with many of the shows involving audience participation.

Music in beautiful settings: Bremen city centre and the banks of the Weser are transformed into an open air stage

Just a few days later, the HOEG City Sommerfest brings a party feeling to the city centre from 19 to 21 June. There are around 40 acts spanning everything from folk and rock music to singer songwriters performing across six different venues, including the marketplace with the town hall, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The three-day open air event also boasts all sorts of food and drink stands, street art and literary elements.

In July, all eyes turn to the Weser: the popular Breminale music festival will be held on the Osterdeich promenade between 1 and 5 July. Locals and tourists alike can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with lots of live music, theatre, dance and recitals across an array of glittering stages, stands and circus tents. It is a relaxed summer event for all the family, with children’s entertainment and various attractions including a big wheel, a bobby car racetrack and various stalls.

The programme of summer events in the Hanseatic city is rounded off by the Bremen Wine Festival which treats wine-lovers and all foodies to a range of selected wines and regional delicacies. Between 27 and 30 August, regional winemakers and dealers will showcase local and international wines at the market square and other attractive settings across the city. Eventgoers can enjoy not only the wine tastings, but also the accompanying musical performances.
