Freimarkt Bremen 2025: the biggest fair in the north is opening its doors
Freimarkt Bremen is one of the oldest and largest fairs in Germany and is opening its doors for a whole load of unforgettable experiences from 17 October to 2 November 2025. Visitors to the Bürgerweide in the heart of the Hanseatic city can enjoy a lively mixture of high-thrills attractions, foodie treats and traditional market stalls.
With a history dating back to the year 1035, Freimarkt Bremen is such a firm fixture in the cultural life of the city on the Weser that it is sometimes referred to as the fifth season. Every year, it attracts millions of people with an extensive programme of events for all ages that lets visitors immerse themselves in typical northern German hospitality.
From Medieval markets to roller-coasters
This year, there are some fifty thrilling rides, including big wheels and roller-coasters, and visitors can also look forward to a range of exhibitors, local specialities and exciting events. As well as the main market on the Bürgerweide, the market square in the city centre also boasts historic stalls and nostalgic fairground rides. The Medieval market between the Town Hall and the Liebfrauenkirche transports visitors back to the days of traditional arts and crafts and tasty treats from wood-fired ovens, all of which is a heady reminder of the early days of the ‘free market’.
The Freimarkt procession
The traditional Freimarkt procession on Saturday, 25 October 2025, is another of the highlights of the fair. Beautifully decorated floats and groups of musicians make their way through the streets of Bremen, creating a buzz among the spectators and filling their bags with delicious sweets made in Bremen known as ‘Bremer Bonschen’. The parade starts at 10 a.m. in Bremen’s new town before heading to the marketplace and then the main station. It all culminates with the traditional awards for the best and most creative floats, which take place in the Bayernzelt marquee on the Bürgerweide.
Places for visitors to stay
There are lots of accommodation options for those that want to experience the Freimarkt Bremen close up, ranging from charming hotels in the old town to modern rooms near the event venue. The people of Bremen love to welcome visitors from all over the world and show off the beauty and hospitality of the city. The city’s hotel portal provides a good overview of the accommodation available in Bremen and the surrounding area.
