Free Pussy Riot – The Movie documents the nearly two-year imprisonment of the women of Pussy Riot that is expected to end this week. Russian President Vladimir Putin blinked last week or decided he needed some positive public relations prior to the Sochi Olympics. An amnesty bill he submitted to the Russian parliament for non-violent offenders is expected to pass this week, and the women of Pussy Riot could be out of prison as early as Thursday.

The women were ripped from the punk rock political performance scene and sentenced to two years in prison under questionable circumstances in March 2012. An international outcry followed, and they became of symbol of lack of freedoms in Russia.

Free Pussy Riot – The Movie includes the Pussy Riot prison interviews, the appeals and the demonstrations that turned violent from police beatings. Filmmakers have arranged interviews with the freed women to include in the movie’s release, which is scheduled for March 2014.

Putin said amnesty will not cover those protesters who struck police, which means some of the people arrested in the May 6, 2012, protests against Putin’s re-election will stay in prison. Former billionaire, Mikhail Khodorkovsky also will not be released.

Actress Daryl Hannah narrates the movie. VMI Worldwide is handling distribution of Free Pussy Riot – The Movie.
