Outstanding architectural projects at the 6th International NEXT Facade Summit

With the 6th edition of the successful International NEXT Facade Summit format, everything in WICONA + Partners' NEXT Studio in Frankfurt revolves around the motto "Think Globally, Build Locally". Starting at 4 pm (CET) on November 15, 2022, experts from internationally renowned architecture and planning offices will report on innovative and sustainable facade or building projects in an international context. The English-language event will be live-streamed.

Architecture that prioritizes people

At the beginning of the event, which will be moderated by Arvind Kumar (Hydro Building Systems Middle East), Benjamin Beer - Managing Director and Head of Facades at Werner Sobek's Dubai office - will provide insight into the working methods and range of services offered by the office, which is active throughout the world. Its services are based on the three building blocks of engineering, design, and sustainability. All of Werner Sobek's projects aspire to create a constructed environment that is aesthetically pleasing and suitable for generations to come. Some noteworthy projects by Werner Sobek include Kuwait International Airport and the exceptionally sustainable EDGE ElbSide office building in Hamburg's HafenCity district.

Afterwards, Sveinung Chercka-Simonsen from Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects (Copenhagen) will give a lecture. The senior partner and project architect from the award-winning firm will present inspiring architectural projects that have one thing in common: They consistently prioritize people as building users. For example, one project currently in the planning stage is the 100-meter Rocket & Tigerli residential tower in Switzerland - one of the tallest wooden highrises in the world. Another highlight is the impressive VIA office and commercial tower in Oslo, which was built with a multifunctional closed cavity facade solution by WICONA.

Design creative and livable buildings

Christian Eichinger from KSP Engel will also be there. The architect and head of the Munich location explains the office's successful philosophy. His credo is that architectural thinking and action always includes ecological, economic, and socio-cultural aspects. The speaker will show how this can be achieved in practice using internationally renowned projects such as the Great Mosque of Algiers, the National Library of China in Beijing, and the Shenzhen Art Museum & Library. Also on the agenda is the topic of refurbishing existing buildings, as illustrated by the example of the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin.

To conclude, Giuseppe La Ferla will speak in his role as project architect at Chapman Taylor Global Architects and Masterplanners in Madrid, highlighting how the firm designs creative and livable buildings worldwide by combining creativity, interdisciplinarity, a focus on client needs, and sustainability. Some of its best projects include the futuristic "Airport City" in Jeddah and the impressive Deniz Mall in Baku.
