Music streaming service WiMP reveals most played 2012
Music service WiMP summarizes the year and today reveals the most played albums and tracks from all its countries. A high share of local artists, several debutants and some second-year-in-a-row entries are among the trends.
In Norway, Adele tops the album list, like she did in 2011 too with her ‘21’. The English singer-songwriter and musician has been played meticulously in Norwegian homes over the last two years. Most played Norwegian album was Donkeyboy’s ‘Silver Moon’. Most played track was Swedish artist ‘Laleh’ with her ‘Some Die Young’, that caught on special meaning in Norway after the terrorist attacks on July 22nd 2011. Most played Norwegian track was Sirkus Eliassen’s dance floor hit mania ‘Ae vil bare dans’ (I just want to dance).
Donkeyboy’s frontman Cato Sundberg commented that he’s very glad people listened to their entire album and not just what’s played on the radio, and mentioned that they had worked particularly on promoting their music on streaming through social media this year, more than physical.

“When entering 2013, it’s natural to ask if not international names such as Imagine Dragons and Gabrielle Aplin, and Norwegian bands Alfred Hall and Disaster In The Universe might appear on these lists next year,” comments Sveinung Rindal, WiMP-editor in Norway.
In Sweden, Laleh impressively manages to beat Adele, and tops the album charts with her ‘Sjung’, followed by Adele’s ’21’. The track list number one is Eurovision Song Contest winner Loreen with her massive hit single ‘Euphoria’, followed by Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ as most played international track.
“Laleh has delivered an incredible album that we are happy to announce as most played in WiMP, and we are also happy to see that more than half of the top positions are held by Swedish artists. We will continue to promote local music both through our recommendations and tips in WiMP and also through our concerts series WiMP Live Sessions in Stockholm that of course also can be streamed in WiMP afterwards” commented Swedish WiMP-editor Karin Moberg.

In Denmark, hit-maker Rasmus Seebach tops the charts for the second year in a row, like Adele does it in Norway, with his album ‘Mer ‘End Kærlighed’. Seebach is joined by many fellow Danes, as the charts features the highest local share of all, with a staggering 69% on the track list. That is, however, topped by Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, closely followed by local act Lukas Graham and his hit single ‘Drunk In The Morning’. Graham’s self-titled album can also be found on second place at the album list.
Rasmus Seebach comments to WiMP that he feels proud and lucky and hopes and believes that, more than just being pop songs, his work has some depth that people can use for something as well.

“Over the last year, we have increasingly seen that our users are curious about discovering new artists. It’s exciting for the Danish music scene that new names like Lukas Graham and Shaka Loveless in just a short time can enter the charts alongside established artists such as Rasmus Seebach and Medina,” says Thor Martin Jensen, WiMP’s Global Editorial Manager (and Dane).
Most played German album was by rapper Cro, and his album ‘Roap’. Cro also had the most played German track with ‘Du’, while Swedish artist Lykke Li’s ‘Follow Rivers’ topped the German track-list.
“The fact that Cro tops the charts shows that you don’t necessarily have to be on a Major Label to get things moving and I’m always happy when we see a German artist on the top of the list. We have recently launched a ‘Discovery’-category in WiMP to promote local artists, and especially newcomers,” comments Bettina Engelmann, German WiMP-editor.

Finally, WiMP launched a beta version of its service in Poland in November, and recently announced its first ever top list of most played tracks for the first couple of weeks in service on the Polish market. Both the album and track lists were topped by Lana Del Rey’s single and album ‘Born To Die’, while local musician Smolik had the most played Polish album with ‘The Trip’. Upcoming Polish singer Brodka had the most played local track with her ‘Dancing Shoes’.
“Monika Brodka is an absolute record breaker at the first Polish WiMP-charts with as many as three albums in the top 30 most played and five tracks on the top 30 tracklist,” comments Katarzyna Rogalska, Polish WiMP-editor.
