Today, music streaming service WiMP release an updated iOS version with new and improved features for iPhone and iPad. Among the news are artist and track based radio, genre overview and pages for album- and playlists. Also, an updated desktop version for PC and Mac will be released shortly.

Track and Artist Radio for discovery of similar music

Through cooperation with The Echo Nest, WiMP is now introducing two new features to let users get more of what they like. When listening to a track, users can select Track radio to play more similar tracks. A similar feature also lets users on the artist page hear tracks by similar artists.

- We believe this new feature will help our users discover even more artists and get tips even beyond our editorial recommendations. It’s all about convenience, says WiMP Global Editor, Thor Martin Jensen.

The Echo Nest is the leading music intelligence company, providing application developers with the most in-depth understanding of music content and fans through ‘big data’ technology that actually reads about and listen to music everywhere online.

- It’s great to collaborate with WiMP, a company equally as obsessed with music discovery as The Echo Nest, says Jim Lucchese, CEO of The Echo Nest. The Echo Nest’s industry leading playlisting and discovery solution, coupled with WiMP’s expert editorial and curation, are a winning combination. Together we are helping music fans discover new music they’ll love, Lucchese says.

Genre pages for deep-dive in Pop, Rock, Metal, Jazz, HipHop etc.

WiMP differentiates from other music streaming services through its strong editorial profile, with local editors selecting and recommending songs, albums, artists, and creating fun and relevant playlists in all genres. The updated iOS-version includes genre overview making it easy to find the latest new tracks within for instance National music, Indie, Rock, Pop, Metal, HipHop, Jazz etc.

- Feedback on this feature for Android has been exclusively positive, so we believe the new genre pages for iOS will be just as popular. It makes it easy to browse and discover music directed to users own preference. Of course, as the first genre every country highlights its own country, so you will find Norwegian music in Norway, Swedish in Sweden, Danish in Denmark, Polish in Poland and German in Germany, says Jensen.

Easy access to WiMP editor’s recommended playlist and album list catalog

WiMP’s editors work day and night creating relevant playlists and album lists, anything from artists playlists, today’s set list at local concerts in Oslo or Warsaw, or reviews of legendary artists or labels. With the new iOS version, users can now easily access the entire catalogue of these playlists and album lists on their mobile.

The new desktop version

Like the new iOS version, the desktop version will include Artist and Track radio. In addition to this, Discovery radio allows you to listen to a mix of tracks similar to your most played artists and tracks on your "Favorites" page. Practical and visual improvements are made for a neater setup, and the search functions are improved by integrating playlists and theme- and campaign pages in your search.
