Confidex introduces a new asset management tag family with Wirepas Wide Area Mesh Connectivity
Confidex is introducing a new asset management tag family that takes advantage of the benefits of Wirepas Connectivity. It is designed to satisfy the increasing customer need for cost effective logistics solutions operating with unprecedented density and reliability. Based on Nordic Semiconductor’s ultra-low power standard nRF52-series chipset, the all-new upcoming Confidex Viking™ tags track the location of assets and people and can sense the surrounding environment.
Founded on over a decade’s experience in industrial wireless identification, Confidex, together with its customers designed a family of modular asset management tags. The new family sets the standard for industrial asset tracking, indoor & outdoor locating and sensor telemetry. Based on standard silicon originally designed to run Bluetooth Low Energy, Confidex partnered with Wirepas to ensure the tags are fully compliant with Wirepas Wide Area Mesh Connectivity. By working with Wirepas, Confidex is addressing the need for logistic solutions with enhanced density, minimized interference and increased security.

The combination of Confidex and Wirepas expertise allows customers to implement completely new industrial asset tracking applications for use cases which were not previously possible. For example, very large scale industrial asset management deployments. Traditionally, such an application with all battery-operated devices hasn’t been possible but now, with Confidex industrial grade tag and Wirepas Connectivity, manufacturing and logistics companies can have complete, cost-effective visibility over their assets, thanks to the robust wireless identification technology.

High density of assets has been one of the traditional challenges in large scale industrial asset management applications, for example in large distribution centers and warehouses. Wirepas scales to the density encountered in typical large-scale installations and is resilient to the abundant interference from Wi-Fi and other users of the 2.4 GHz frequency band.
Some industrial customers have very robust requirements for the protection of asset data and they need to secure the wireless communication. In the case of Wirepas Connectivity, all 2-way communication is encrypted at the network level using industry standard algorithms such as AES. Messages are integrity checked thus preserving the privacy and integrity of customer data.
All of this is possible due to Wirepas’ commercialization of over 15 years of research into high scale wide area mesh networking in the cradle of wireless: Finland.
