World RX of Sweden preview

It’s ace to be back at base

Competing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, we travel 12,000 kilometres to and from Canada, 26,000 to get to the last race of the season in Argentina and then come home again. But this week, we’re not going so far. In fact, we’re going an hour or so up the A62 from the PSRX base in Torsby.

Hell yeah, it’s time for Holjës!

I love this race and I love this racetrack. It’s just a shame it’s not a little bit further west… Just joking! You know I am Norwegian and I am passionate about my country, but my wife Pernilla is Swedish – which makes my son Oliver half-Swedish and my team is living and working in Sweden. So, I think we can be sure, Sweden is my second home race.

Whether or not it is the home race, one thing is sure, Holjës is always one of the best events of the year. Last year it was just insane, just super-crazy how many people came to this track and had such a great party! But the result was not so good. We got a puncture, we got third.

This time I’d love to go two better. I want to win. I always want to win! But here is the problem, do I want to win enough to make a gamble with the championship lead?

No.

I won’t do that. Like I said, I want to win every race, I am desperate to – especially in front of such a big and really cool crowd. But if we win this weekend, we celebrate for one night; if we win at this season, we celebrate for one year!

Last year I was crowned the first ever FIA World Rallycross Champion, this year I want to be the first man ever to win back-to-back World RX titles. That’s the focus and the whole team feels the same way. We have a strategy for Sweden and we will stick to it.

I’m not going to tell you what it is, but you know me – it won’t be boring!

Last time out…

Petter stayed out of trouble and avoided the first-corner carnage typical of a race around the Estering track in Germany to take his 10thpodium in 11 World RX races and his sixth consecutive first or second place result. The upshot of another sublime Solberg performance was a 35-point lead as the PSRX squad headed north on the long road to Torsby.
