Race of Champions preview
It’s time to come together…
Reigning FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg will contest this week’s Race of Champions at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
The Norwegian will join stars from across the world of motorsport at the venue originally built for the London 2012 Olympics. The asphalt circuit will be as tight, twisty and unforgiving as ever, with the event starting on Friday evening and concluding with the Race of Champions at 1500 (local time) on Saturday.
“The Race of Champions is usually a bit of an end of season party for motorsport. This year, while we will have some fun and nice competition, we will all be remembering what has happened in Paris last Friday.
“It’s nice that so many drivers from so many countries can come together in a European capital city and show how together we are at times like this.
“It’s a little bit strange for me competing because our season hasn’t finished yet – so a bit more competitive seat time ahead of the final World Rallycross round in Argentina isn’t a bad thing for me.
“I have good memories from Race of Champions in Barbados last year, winning the Nations’ Cup alongside Tom Kristensen as Team Nordic. We’ll be looking for the same result this time around.”
This will be the third time Petter has contested Race of Champions – he drove in the 2007 event at Wembley Stadium, also in London.
