Before they book: letting tourists know the truth about tigers

On World Animal Day last month we launched a new campaign – Before they book.  Today we are taking the next step in that campaign, uncovering the hidden cruelty behind tiger themed tourist attractions and parks. 

Tiger selfies are cruel not cool

Every year thousands of tourists dream of a once in a lifetime experience – seeing a tiger in the wild.  Unfortunately some attractions have taken advantage of this dream and turned it into a nightmare for tigers.  Yet people are largely unaware of the cruelty that the world’s largest wild cats suffer behind the scenes.

Tigers are often found chained up, sharing barren cages and forced to lie out in direct sunshine, making them lethargic enough to appear at ease with a tourist presence.  We have also found evidence of some parks removing their teeth and claws – an extremely painful process that can cause arthritis and other lifelong health issues. 

Moving animal-lovers to think before they book

lobal research has shown that 50% of people who pay for a wild animal experience do so because they love animals.  But we know that if these animal lovers were aware of the abuse that takes place at tiger themed tourist attractions and parks, they would never take part.  That’s why we have launched the next step in our ‘Before they book’ campaign, to expose the truth behind the suffering of tigers posing for holiday snaps.
