Fundraiser supports million pound challenge

A Manchester-based engineer has just completed the Manchester Marathon, on behalf of The Genesis Appeal, and is hoping to raise in excess of £1000 in support of research into the prevention of breast cancer.

Tony Fox an associate director at WYG has completed the second leg of his fundraising feat to take part in three running events, as part of The Genesis Million Miles Challenge, with the first being the Wilmslow Half Marathon (25 March).

The Challenge aims to raise £1 million for pioneering research into the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.  Completing the Manchester Marathon in 4hrs and 15mins Tony is now preparing for the last leg of his fundraising, the BUPA Manchester 10k on 20 May 2012.

Talking after the race Tony Fox, Associate Director, WYG said: “The inspiration for entering these events is to continue supporting organisations in the treatment and prevention of cancer, who are largely dependant on charitable donations.

“The Genesis Appeal is such an important charity and the only one in the UK entirely dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer. Breast cancer currently affects 1 in 10 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the UK, and it is their aim to create a future without this terrible disease and make 1 in 10, none in 10.

“Last years success at the Paris Marathon in raising just under £2000 was to support and recognise the fantastic work that Christies and St Ann’ Hospice continue to do and as a thank you for the support and care given to my family. This year’s support for The Genesis Appeal is again to support, recognise and raise awareness of research into the prevention of breast cancer, which again is close to members of my family.

“Hopefully my small endeavours and help in raising awareness will benefit this marvellous organisation.”

Organised by the charity The Genesis Million Miles Challenge is open to anyone wanting to help support the prediction and prevention of cancer.
