WYG to help Liverpool companies grow internationally

Liverpool Chamber of Commerce has invited multi-disciplinary consultancy, WYG to join their International Trade Committee to help promote and grow international activities amongst Liverpool companies.

In recognition of WYG’s ongoing support to the Liverpool city region, the award-winning consultancy will join 20 other International Trade Committee members to facilitate exchanges of knowledge, information and experience with international businesses and respond to local, regional and national government consultations.

The Committee, made up of a wealth of knowledge in different aspects of international trade, also works with local authorities and partner organisations to organise inward trade missions from countries and cities around the world with the aim of promoting stronger business links for Liverpool Chamber members.

Paul Grover, Regional Director, WYG said: “Over the last couple of years the Chamber has supported WYG in exploring new markets overseas and we have worked closely together in supporting and hosting delegations from China, Russia and most recently the United Arab Emirates.

“Having been invited to speak at several of the Chambers peer-to-peer international market awareness and exporting seminars in recent months, I believe that our appointment to the Committee will foster even strong relationships for WYG in the Liverpool region. I also believe that our appointment to the Committee will provide WYG with access to a wider network of Chambers in those regions where we are focussing our international growth.”

Although a global organisation WYG has strong local roots and through its acquisition of Liverpool-based Tweeds in 2006 has been active in the region since 1952 and whilst Tweeds joined the Chamber in 1970 it was WYG's sponsorship of the Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010 that brought the company into direct contact with Liverpool's International Trade Committee.

Elena Enciso, Liverpool International Trade Executive, Liverpool Chamber added: “We are delighted that WYG has agreed to join our International Trade Committee.  We believe that the company’s position as an established global multi-disciplinary consultancy will further enrich the breadth of experience held by Committee members.

“WYG has actively promoted the Liverpool city region both nationally and internationally for several years and as such we believe WYG's appointment to the Committee will be of direct benefit to our members.”

Programmes led by the Chambers International Trade service have increased companies turnover and helped to create hundreds of new jobs in Merseyside. These programmes have included action plans for companies, access to funding and market awareness seminars and the ‘Continuous Professional Development International Programme’.

Elaina continued: “Last year we welcomed two delegations from Russia, one from Vietnam, the USA, the UAE and one from Indonesia. Japan and Mexico government delegates also visited Liverpool Chamber as part of a research programme to find out possibilities in the region. LCC works together with UKTI in the promotion of Trade Missions worldwide.”

Over the last 25 years the Chamber has organised Trade Missions on behalf of UK Trade and Investment and has worked with national trade organisations and partners in the delivery of events across the world including, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Demark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, UAE, and Venezuela amongst others.

Established in 1850, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce has 1700 business members and represents Liverpool's business community locally, nationally and around the world.  It uses its network of members to market the city and local business to international markets.

Liverpool also has representation through the Liverpool Embassy in London, the only UK city to have its own dedicated embassy in the capital.
