LOS ANGELES - As part of the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation in April, the Wyland Foundation and Toyota have joined with the creative forces behind the hit animated children's series, Wonder Grove Kids on a series of animated Public Service Announcements to draw attention to the enormous benefits to our nation of using water wisely.

"Water conservation is making headlines across the country," said artist and conservationist Wyland, founder of the non-profit Wyland Foundation. "Whether it's drought conditions in the West or the high costs of energy related to water use in the East, saving water has become one of the most talked about issues in the nation today."

The National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, April 1-30, is a non-profit, community-based competition between cities to see who can be the most "water wise." With support from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National League of Cities, U.S. Forest Service, the Toro Company, Wonder Grove Kids, and Bytelaunch, mayors and civic leaders nationwide will challenge their residents to conserve water, energy on behalf of their city. Cities with the highest percentage of residents who make pledges are eligible for thousands of dollars in prizes, including a Toyota Prius Plug-in, custom landscape irrigation, and gift cards to home improvement stores. Residents can track the standings of their city throughout the month at www.mywaterpledge.com to see if they need to get even more of their friends and neighbors involved. A participating mayor is a not a requirement for a city to win the challenge.
