Wyld Networks and Lacuna Space agree partnership, boosting the number of operational satellites within Wyld’s virtual satellite IoT service
Wyld Networks has announced a partnership with Lacuna Space to increase global satellite coverage and capacity for its commercial sensor-to-satellite service to be launched in December 2022.
The agreement will allow Wyld to transfer data from its low-power, sensor-to-satellite LoRaWAN® terminals and modules through Lacuna’s network of Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites for IoT applications where there is little or no alternative connectivity.
With 100 percent global coverage, satellite IoT is ideal for applications in remote areas from agriculture and environmental monitoring, supply chain and logistics tracking, to managing energy and utilities infrastructure.
The new agreement with Lacuna will allow Wyld to accelerate the roll out of its satellite IoT services. This will enable high volumes of connected sensors to deliver critical data reliably and cost effectively. Lacuna has already deployed five LEO satellite gateways with plans to launch a further twelve in 2023, and also aggregates coverage from a third-party MEO constellation. Wyld’s virtual service will combine Lacuna’s satellite capability with that of its existing satellite partner, to provide customers with greater coverage and capacity.
"Wyld’s innovative hardware technologies and cloud-based Fusion platform are an excellent fit for Lacuna’s growing satellite network and expertise, to accelerate the rapid progress toward meeting massive global IoT demand,” says Rob Spurrett, CEO at Lacuna Space. “As part of the agreement Wyld will resell data from the Lacuna satellite constellation to their customers.”
“Lacuna Space shares our vison of LoRaWAN® connected satellite IoT” says Alastair Williamson, CEO at Wyld Networks. “This new partnership, adding to our existing satellite partners, will play an important role in our operational launch later this year to increase our satellite coverage and offer our customers an end-to-end solution including data service”.
