Lynn Rush is hoping to attract artists from all over the world to participate in an open competition to provide the cover art for her next novel – the first novel of the Violet Midnight Trilogy. Judged by three legends in the art world: Ed Copley, the direct descendant of John Singleton Copley, Colonial America’s portrait artist; Vala Ola, Iceland native who, among other award,s was a finalist of the Smithsonian Young Illustrator's Competition; and Don Clapper, an outstanding portrait artist and a founder of the International Guild of Realism.

(Phoenix, AZ - April 3, 2012) - In the literary world, Vampires are a bite above the rest and a hot commodity. With Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series as one of the biggest story in publishing, the hunger for the genre remains strong. But with no new Meyer title on the horizon, young adult fans are quenching their thirst for paranormal fiction by turning to other authors like Lynn Rush.   With two novels published in her Wasteland Trilogy – Wasteland and Awaited (May 2012 release) – Rush moves into the world of vampires and their hunters with her next trilogy starting with Violet Midnight, scheduled for an October 2012 release.

Cover art is usually decided by the publisher, with little input from the author. But, the cover for Violet Midnight has to be striking for this successful author’s lead book in the new trilogy. So Rush is hoping to attract artists from all over the world to participate in an open competition to provide the cover art for her next novel – the first novel of the Violet Midnight Trilogy.

An often overlooked source of fine art is found on the humble book cover. Many well known artists including Norman Rockwell and Charles Russell began their art careers as illustrators. The book cover art must not only be visually interesting it must also somehow covey a message of the contents of the book which is no small matter. Rush wants the competition for her cover to be as strong.

Rush is the genre-breaking author of Crescent Moon Press’s (New York City, NY) newest category – New Adult. Rush’s novels center on young adulthood – New Adult protagonists are most likely in the range of 18 to 26 years old. In fact, Rush’s protagonists are male and the story is seen through their eyes with strong characterization, well developed plots and action-packed storylines.

Rush says she writes paranormal romances for the New Adult audience because it is what interests her. While New Adult fiction may not be the "hot and heavy" romance featured in novels for adults, it’s a touch warmer than the “sweet” romance of the young adult novels.

“There’s a lot that can happen when you’re eighteen or even twenty five years old. The fact is that those same events feel very different at that age than they do when you are twelve years old – or forty years old,” explained Rush. “Because I write Paranormal romance, sometimes my characters are centuries old - but their human contacts are in the new adult age range.”

"Crescent Moon Press is excited and pleased to announce a 6 book deal with author Lynn Rush.   Her novels are ground breaking in the 'New Adult' genre and we believe Lynn will have a strong and sustaining presence in publishing,” said Marlene Castricato of Crescent Moon Press. "We're very excited to open our New Adult line with Lynn as our lead author.  She is a fresh voice and a dynamic author."

ABOUT VIOLET MIDNIGHT

Pursuing a normal existence by attending college proves difficult for vampire Hunter, Emma Martin, considering the mystical tattoo on her wrist glows whenever Vamps are near. And after three months of silence, the glow is back with a vengeance. Jake Cunningham witnesses Emma using her powers and reveals a few of his own. Finally, after three years of searching, he realizes his newfound abilities must mean he’s a Hunter like Emma.

Thankful not to be alone in the fight against the Vamps, Emma finds hope and comfort in Jake’s arms. As she learns more about her new love’s family and its dark heritage, she may be forced not only to hunt them, but also to sacrifice her life to save Jake’s soul. Rush’s novels center on young adulthood - but it isn’t necessarily ‘chick lit’ either. In fact, Rush’s protagonists are male and the story is seen through their eyes with strong characterization, well developed plots and action-packed storylines.

ABOUT THE COVER ART COMPETITION

Lynn Rush is hosting her inaugural competition to select the cover art for the actual publication of a literary work. You are invited to participate in an open competition to provide the cover art for the publication of Violet Midnight, the first novel of the Violet Midnight Trilogy. The winner of this contest will receive $250.00 in award money with his/her artwork to be featured on the first edition of the novel. Participants may enter for consideration graphic art, paintings, photographs, collage art and other visual media based on the novel by submitting a digital photograph of the work (in jpg or jpeg format). This contest is open to anyone, worldwide, and designers/artists of varying backgrounds and experience are welcomed. There is a $25 entry fee. Designers/artists may submit more than one entry. Early entries are encouraged.

The winner of the cover art competition will be determined by our panel of judges:

  • Ed Copley (http://edcopleyfineart.com) the direct descendant of John Singleton Copley, Colonial America’s portrait artist who did paintings of the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere, John Hancock, John Adams, etc.  From his resume – A Modern Day Old Master - "I have always been fascinated by art," says Ed. "From the age of five or six, I wanted to be a painter. And I have studied for many years to understand how the Old Masters achieved what they did. After attending two fine art schools and starting a career as an illustrator, I was still seeking more knowledge. I continued to study on my own and then went into the highly specialized field of restoration of oil paintings. I realized that I liked to solve problems, essentially doing detective work. If you have ever stood in awe in front of a great painting and wondered how on earth they created it then you can understand why restoration work can be so challenging. I wanted to find how they painted, as these old artists created works of art that hardly seemed possible."
  • Vala Ola (http://www.valaola.com) is an outstanding artist and sculptor.  NATIVE OF ICELAND - STUDIED ART IN ENGLAND - Vala was born and raised in Iceland. Graduating from the College of Hamrahlid, she furthered her studies at the Icelandic College of the Arts, and later graduated from The Arts Institute in Bournemouth, England. She won the Icelandic Design Excellence Award for the first time at the age of twenty-six. During her studies in England, she placed two entries among the finalists at the Smithsonian Young Illustrator's Competition. Returning to Iceland, she went on as her country's sole representative at the Nordic Graphic Design & Illustration Awards. She won the Best Figurative Award 2006 for her painting at the International Guild of Realism Annual Show in Santa Fe 2006.
  • Don Clapper (http://www.clapperart.com) is another outstanding artist and is a founder of the International Guild of Realism.  Clapper’s work has received national as well as international recognition. He has received numerous articles in such publications as International Artist Magazine, American Art Review, American Art Collector Magazine and Art News. His work has been featured in many museums across the nation including The Phoenix Art Museum, The Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin and The Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has exhibited in top level galleries across the country in New York City, Dallas, Santa Fe, LA and Naples, FL
