YIT Corporation Press Release 6 February 2023 at 8:00 a.m.

According to a barometer* commissioned by YIT, the conditions of the office are an important factor in employees’ comfort at the workplace. Those who mainly work in an office emphasise the importance of their own office space or workstation (67% of respondents). People want a workstation that is quiet and allows them to concentrate, which, according to most of the respondents, translates to more efficient work. Of the respondents, 41% would choose good ventilation and a suitable temperature for their ideal office workplace.

Those working in offices appreciate having an ergonomic and adjustable workstation, high-quality tools, good ventilation, a suitable temperature, a good selection of services and restaurants nearby as well as a reasonably priced lunch. Respondents under the age of 36 particularly value ergonomic workstations and pleasant interior design. Comfortable break rooms and places to meet other people also attract employees to offices.

Nine out of ten respondents who work remotely on a weekly basis want to be able to decide where and when they work in the future. The share of those working remotely on a daily basis has clearly diminished from the previous year.

The most important factor for the location of a workplace is that it is located within walking or cycling distance (58% of respondents) or easily accessible by public transport (55% of respondents). In Oulu, Jyväskylä and Kuopio, commuting by bicycle has clearly increased in popularity as every second resident travels by bike on a weekly basis. Electric cars and rechargeable hybrids have been getting increasingly common, especially among those who commute more than 10 kilometres.

*The Sustainable urban environments barometer survey is directed at the residents of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Kuopio. The number of respondents for the online panel this year was 1,074 + 348 (separate sample of office workers). The data represents the population of 18–75-year-old residents of cities by gender and age. The survey was carried out between September and October 2022. Prior Konsultointi was commissioned by YIT to conduct the survey.
