YIT IS AWARDED AN ADDITIONAL PROJECT OF ABOUT EUR 22 MILLION FOR HELSINKI’S WESTERN METRO LINE IN FINLAND
YIT Construction Ltd and Länsimetro Oy have agreed on an excavation project for the Niittykumpu station and metro tunnel for Helsinki's westward metro line in Finland. The total value of the project is EUR 21.6 million. The project comprises the excavation of the station, access tunnel, metro, connecting tunnels and two shafts. Two metro tunnels, each about one and a half kilometres long, will be excavated in the project. Excavation will commence in September 2011, and the project is scheduled for completion in December 2013.
YIT has also implemented other project stages for the westward metro line. Ongoing projects are the excavation of the metro tunnel passing under the Lauttasaari strait, the excavation of the Keilaniemi station and metro tunnel and the earth-moving for Tapiola's eastern access tunnel. Two previous access tunnel projects (Matinkylä and Otaniemi) have already been completed.
YIT wins the competition for the safest site of the westward metro line
The access tunnel project in Matinkylä has won the competition for the safest site of the westward metro line. In the period under review from January to June 2011, there were zero accidents and incidents at YIT's Matinkylä excavation site. Länsimetro Oy arranges the competition every six months, and all of the ongoing projects of the westward metro line participate.
