YIT is expanding a waste-to-energy plant in Vantaa, Finland
YIT is building Vantaa Energy’s second waste-to-energy plant unit WtE2 that will primarily utilise waste from industry. The project consists of several partial contracts, of which YIT will execute at least the concrete structure of the bunker as well as the concrete and frame structures of the main buildings.
Work began in June 2020, and according to the schedule, it will be completed in August 2021.
“As of 2022, waste from trade and industry, in addition to mixed waste from households, will be utilised in energy production in Vantaa. The extension project of the waste-to-energy plant is significant for Vantaa Energy as it is one of the enablers of fossil-free energy production as early as in 2026. It was important for us to select an experienced contractor that is well-known in the industry for this technically and schedule-wise demanding building contract,” says Jukka Toivonen, CEO of Vantaa Energy.
