YIT launches the construction of the Tuultenristi office building in Tapiola, Espoo
YIT Corporation Press release 12 April 2022 at 09:00 a.m.
YIT is launching the construction of the five-storey office building and a car park that will serve housing units of Tuultenristi in Tapiola.
Tuultenristi will have a total of 4,200 sq-m of office space, with attractive views of Merituulentori and over Tuuliniitty to Hakalehto. The first anchor tenants of Tuultenristi are Helsingin Seudun Osuuspankki and the Martha Organization for Uusimaa. The services of Shopping Centre Ainoa and the cultural events of the centre of Tapiola are in the immediate vicinity.
Construction is being carried out in phases and will be completed in spring 2023. The work started with the organisation of temporary routes and the installation of protective structures. The Tuultenristi site is located at a very busy traffic hub, which requires particularly careful planning from the point of view of safety and mobility.
“Nearly 900 buses, hundreds of cars and thousands of people travel around and under the construction site every day, which is why we must focus on safety and the smoothness of traffic and logistics. We are trying to minimise the damage caused by our construction site with careful forward planning and good communications,” says Tero Seppänen, Construction Manager at YIT.
In order to reduce CO2 emissions* and verify the carbon footprint, the CO2 emissions of Tuultenristi are being calculated at the start of the construction phase and monitored throughout the construction process. The climate impacts during construction are being reduced, for example, by recycling and sorting over 70% of the materials. The building was designed in accordance with YIT’s Smart Building concept, which enables, for example, optimising energy use, servicing and maintenance of the property in the future. YIT will apply for the LEED environmental certification for Tuultenristi.
“The Tuultenristi office building is located in a prime spot that catches the attention of people approaching Tapiola from the west. The building adds modern zest to central Tapiola, making the popular neighbourhood even more attractive and comfortable”, says Anne Suojoki, Project Development Manager.
YIT’s hybrid Tuultenristi project also includes the adjacent residential buildings, two of which have 12 and one of which has 9 floors, as well as the nearby plots at Itätuulenkuja 6 and 8. In total, the new buildings will have more than 700 new residents in the centre of Tapiola. The construction of the first residential project, Asunto Oy Espoon Itätuuli, started in spring 2021.
*YIT is the first Finnish construction company committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and its target to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
