YIT selected as partner for the renovation of the Aleksanteri School in Tampere

YIT has been selected as a project management contractor for the renovation project of the Aleksanteri School in Tampere, in addition to which YIT will act as main constructor for the project. The City of Tampere is the commissioner of the project. The project is implemented as a goal- and ceiling-priced cooperative project management contract, in which the project management contractor acts as the main constructor of the project. The cost estimate determined by the client for the project management contract is approximately EUR 20 million.
Aleksanteri School consists of three school buildings built at different times and is an exceptionally demanding renovation site. The buildings and yard area are culturally protected objects, and the buildings will undergo extensive structural repairs. The construction works are scheduled to begin in June 2025, and the renovated premises are expected to be completed in August 2027.
In the renovation project, the technical systems of the school buildings will be modernised and the interiors will be updated to meet the requirements of the modern school environment, while respecting the history of the building. The accessibility of the building will also be improved. Grades 1–6 of basic education and preschool groups of early childhood education, altogether about 550 pupils, operate in the Aleksanteri School buildings.

The project starts with a development phase, during which the scope of the repair work is clarified in more detail and the most suitable repair methods are agreed upon. This type of project implementation enables the project to achieve the best result,” said Sami Viitanen, VP of Housing and Business Premises, Pirkanmaa area.

The project will now start with a development phase during which the customer, the main designer, the selected project management contractor, the design team and the user will plan the renovation in cooperation and define the target and ceiling price for the project management contract. Implementation plans and target and ceiling prices are approved by the city's decision-making bodies before proceeding to the implementation phase.
