YIT to start the development of Tampere Travel and Service Centre (Tampereen Asemakeskus) with Finnpark
YIT Corporation Press release 24 February 2022 at 3:00 p.m.
YIT and Finnpark have agreed to jointly start the development phase of the area owned by Finnpark in the heart of Tampere.
The current project agreement concerns the development of the design solutions and the functional and commercial concept of Asemakeskus (Finnpark area). As part of the development work, the massing of buildings, phasing of construction, placement of green areas and pedestrian and cycling routes, among others things, are also examined. The zoning development of Asemakeskus is carried out in cooperation with and under the direction of the City of Tampere.
The objective of the parties is to develop a distinctive and urban area with housing, jobs and commercial services where the residents of Tampere and visitors to Tampere enjoy visiting and staying. Thanks to its excellent location in terms of traffic connections, the developing Deck area will connect the eastern and western areas of the city and act as a link to the new arena centre.
“We thank Finnpark for their trust and we are excited to start working together to make the core of Tampere even more attractive. Our strong expertise in urban development provides a good starting point for the work. During the development and planning phase, we will take into account the principles of sustainable construction, transport and living in different ways,” says Juha Kostiainen, Senior Vice President, Sustainable Urban Development at YIT.
“It is great that this important project is now taking its next step and that we will have a skilled partner with experience in developing large projects. The Asemakeskus area will be a significant part of the centre of Tampere, connecting the new multi-purpose arena and Hämeenkatu. This sets a high standard for the planning of the area. I believe that this cooperation will be able to meet these requirements,” says Antti Marttila, Managing Director of Finnpark.
