YIT and the City of Helsinki have signed two new street and park maintenance agreements. The maintenance contract covering the areas of Suutarila, Puistola and Heikinlaakso was signed on 10 June 2013. The agreement covering Kaarela was signed on 14 June 2013. Both contracts have already begun and have a duration of four years. The total value of the contracts is approximately EUR 7.4 million.

The City of Helsinki selected four maintenance contracts through competitive bidding, of which YIT won two contracts. All maintenance contracts require work around the year, and contain maintenance tasks related to different seasons.

As the City of Helsinki is developing its maintenance services, quality requirements and documents have also been revised. All of the contracts selected through competitive bidding contain separate contract-specific product cards.

“Contract-specific product cards form part of the development of maintenance in Helsinki in cooperation with contractors. The maintenance quality requirements have been defined to be as comprehensive as possible from different points of view, providing contractors with clear guidelines in order to maintain the quality level required,” says Timo Paavilainen, director of the unit responsible for operations in Southern and Eastern Finland.

“The contract areas have a varying street network and built environment. Having contract-specific product cards makes it easier for the contractor and the city to define a common target at the beginning of the contract and maintain the target state during the project,” Paavilainen says.
