YIT Studies was one of the finalists in the European CSR Award competition in Finland in the large company category. The award recognises the long-standing and close cooperation between YIT and Finnish universities of applied sciences. The winners were announced on Tuesday 14 May at the Ratkaisun Paikka 2013 seminar organised by Corporate Responsibility Network FIBS.

The European CSR Award Scheme is a new international competition aimed at inspiring CSR excellence. The competition takes place simultaneously in 29 countries; in Finland, it is organised by FIBS. In each country, the winners are selected based on CSR partnerships – projects – that the companies have implemented with non-commercial stakeholders. A particular emphasis is placed on collaborative programmes that tackle sustainability through innovation as well as the commercial benefits generated through them and their positive social and environmental impact.

“We are constantly enhancing our collaboration with educational institutions in many different ways.  YIT Studies on construction management are based on a partnership model which is beneficial to universities of applied sciences, their students and YIT alike. Being one of the finalists in such a significant award in the field of social responsibility is wonderful recognition of our long-standing work and it will encourage us to further develop our concepts and partnerships,” says Timo Piili, who heads the YIT Studies programme.

YIT Studies is a study module comprising 5 ECTS credits aimed at construction engineering and construction management students. YIT Studies is available at five universities of applied sciences, with approximately 30 students selected for the programme based on their applications. YIT Studies provides an opportunity for the partner universities to build networks and to develop their teaching while offering the students a chance to apply their skills in practice and securing YIT the availability of skilled professionals in the future. After graduation, the students selected for the YIT Studies programme will be offered permanent positions at YIT.

“The ongoing development of cooperation with educational institutions is one of YIT’s strategic goals. We want to stay one step ahead in competence development and to make sure that there is sufficient availability of strong expertise in our field,” says Pii Raulo, Senior Vice President, Human Resources for YIT Group.
