A fundraising event at York Minster has raised more than £65,000 for the repair and restoration of the 800 year-old building.  The Minster’s North Transept was transformed for the ‘Beef, Beer and Bubbles’ dinner event.

Organised by the York Minster Fund, the event, heavily supported by Timothy Taylor’s amongst other regional brewers, gathered more than 250 people to dine in the spectacular surroundings of the North Transept.  Guests took part in a quiz and bid for exclusive and unusual items in a special auction.

The Dean of York Minster, the Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, welcomed guests to the Minster and the evening’s proceedings were compered by Charles Dent, Chairman of the York Minster Fund and Timothy Taylor’s.

Guests from around the county included Lords Halifax and Crathorne, the Lord Lieutenants of North and West Yorkshire, brewers and finance companies amongst others and trustees of the York Minster Fund.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and his wife Margaret were present for the event and greatly enjoyed the proceedings during which Margaret was elected the ‘carver’ for her table’s portion of sirloin (all of which were donated by Dovecote Park).

Dr Peter Spence, Director of the York Minster Fund said:

“Although the evening was a success, the restoration of the Minster is an ongoing challenge.  All donations to the York Minster Fund (charity number 252157) are dedicated to repairing and restoring the fabric of this marvellous medieval jewel at the heart of York.”
