7, 14 and 21 December 2013

Finding a suitably personal gift for a special loved-one can be a challenge, but York Minster is hosting a series of workshops this December which promise to be fun and rewarding, with the added bonus of having created a handmade gift along the way.

There will be three workshops on Saturdays throughout December, with the programme launching on 7 December with a Cross Stitch Christmas Card Workshop, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.  Led by the York Minster Broderers – the skilled stitching team responsible for all the kneelers, banners and pennants that can be found throughout the cathedral – participants will create a unique and personal cross-stitched Christmas card.  Light seasonal refreshments, including a hot drink and homemade mince pie, are included and the workshop is open to anyone aged seven and over of any level of experience, from absolute novices to skilled stitchers. The workshop costs £15 per person, inclusive of all materials and admission to York Minster, and takes place in the Chapter House.

Coinciding with York’s Festival of Angels on 14 December, the second workshop takes inspiration from the heavenly hosts that feature in the Great East Window.  Priced at £2.50 per participant (plus standard admission to York Minster) and suitable for anyone aged five or over, visitors can drop-in anytime between 10.00am and 3.00pm to create a pretty peg doll angel which can be stood or hung on a Christmas tree – a decoration that can be brought out year after year.

With Christmas just a few days away, the final workshop takes place on 21 December in the Chapter House. York Minster’s flower arrangers will lead participants in a workshop to each create a stunning Christmas Wreath which can either be hung or presented as a table decoration.   Participants will use fresh foliage from the Deanery gardens in addition to other natural materials.  The Christmas Wreath-making workshop costs £15 per person, including admission to the Minster and seasonal refreshments, and runs from 10.00am-12.30pm.

Tickets for the Cross Stitch Christmas Card Workshop and the Christmas Wreath-making Workshop must be pre-booked as places are strictly limited. Tickets can be booked online at www.yorkminster.org, via the Box Office on 01904 557208 or in person from the admissions desks inside York Minster.
