7 & 14 December 2012

Twice as many people will be able to start their Festive season off in musical style this year, as it was announced today that two York Minster Christmas Carol Concerts will take place in 2012, to meet the exceptionally high demand for tickets to this annual event.

Tickets go on sale at 9.30am on 12 September for the two concerts, which will take place on the evenings of 7 and 14 December. Both concerts feature the world-renowned York Minster Choir, accompanied by the Yorkshire Volunteers Band. Concert goers are invited to join in some of the carols, and to sit back and enjoy others performed by the professional musicians. Each concert will have guest readers, which this year will include TV presenter John Craven, novelist Kate Fenton and actress, Cherie Lunghi.

“Our Christmas Carol Concert has been a sell-out event for many years, with tickets often selling out before the end of October – meaning that anyone who does not really want to start thinking about Christmas until November at the earliest misses out. This year, we are hoping that by staging the concert twice, no-one will be disappointed – although we are still expecting a large queue at the box office and with on-line purchasers when the tickets are released on Wednesday,” comments the Reverend Canon Peter Moger, Precentor at York Minster.

Tickets range in price from £12 to £25, with tickets towards the front of the Nave usually selling out within the first couple of hours of their being released. Proceeds from the concert go towards the restoration and conservation of York Minster.

Each concert begins at 7.00pm and lasts approximately an hour and a quarter.
