York Minster is preparing to welcome three members to its governing body following appointments by the Archbishop of York.

The Right Reverend Dr John Sentamu has agreed three appointments to the Chapter of York, which is the body responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of York Minster.

David Butterfield (Archdeacon of the East Riding) will become Archdeacon for Generous Giving and Stewardship and Residentiary Canon of York Minster. The role means David will be based in York and will work across the whole diocese supporting and resourcing churches in the area of Christian giving.  He will be collated and licensed to his new post at a service at York Minster on Monday 23 June at 7.30pm.

Neil Harkin has also been appointed as Lay Canon and Chapter member and will take up his new role with Admission to the College of Canons on 27 June. Neil has worked in banking and is chairman of a financial services company which he co-established in 2009. He is currently a Trustee of York Minster Fund and has been a member of the York Minster Finance Committee since 2011.

In addition, the Archbishop has renewed the term of office of Canon Dr Andrew Green as Canon Treasurer at York Minster for a further three years. Andrew became a Lay Canon of York Minster in 2008 and was appointed Canon Treasurer in May 2010 with overall responsibility to Chapter for finance. Andrew has spent his career in the manufacturing industry and is currently a Divisional Managing Director of a large plastics recycling and film manufacturing group.

The Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, Dean of York, said: “The Chapter of York is delighted that David and Neil will be joining us and that Andrew’s term of office has been renewed. Their arrival strengthens the team leading the development of the mission and ministry of York Minster at an exciting time.”
