Tickets for York Minster’s most popular concerts, the Christmas Carol Concerts, will go on sale a week today (11 September).
Featuring the York Minster Choir - one of the UK’s leading choirs - and celebrity readers, the popular concerts are a must on many people’s Christmas lists with tickets for the 2012 events selling out within weeks last year - seats in the front half of the Nave sold out within 24 hours.
As well as enjoying a range of seasonal readings by guest celebrity readers, concert goers can join the choir in singing some of the country’s favourite Christmas carols at the events on 5 and 6 December.
In addition to the annual carol concerts, music lovers will have the chance to enjoy a special evening with the York Minster Choir on 14 December, when it performs Handel’s Messiah.
The world-famous composition will be performed in the cathedral’s Nave with high-profile soloists including Iestyn Davies, Andrew Kennedy and Sarah Fox ensuring it will be an evening not to be missed.
“Listening to the York Minster Choir in the spectacular cathedral during the festive season is always a special experience, but our December programme this year promises to be particularly exceptional,” explained Robert Sharpe, Director of Music at York Minster.
“In addition to the annual Christmas Carol Concerts, which offer audiences a quintessential British Christmas experience, the magnificent Handel’s Messiah performed in the awe-inspiring Nave promises to be a real highlight in York Minster’s musical calendar.”
Tickets for the Handel’s Messiah concert at 7.30pm on 14 December are already on sale, with the Christmas Carol Concerts available for purchase from 9.30am on 11 September. Tickets prices for all concerts range from £12-£25 each.
To get the best seats at the Christmas Carol Concerts, which start at 7pm, people are encouraged to register online with York Minster’s Box Office in advance, then simply log-in on the day to purchase their tickets.
