With its two Christmas Carol Concerts just a few days away, York Minster has revealed the names of the special guests who will read during the concerts.

Actress Honeysuckle Weeks – who starred in the TV series Foyle’s War – and BBC Religious Affairs Correspondent Robert Pigott will read at the concert on Thursday 5 December, with actress Cherie  Lunghi returning on Friday 6 December, when she will be joined by Bargain Hunt’s Tim Wonnacott.

“These two concerts are such a crucial part of the Minster’s fundraising programme, that we are delighted that these wonderful readers have offered to donate their time,” comments Dr Richard Shephard, Director of Development at the York Minster Fund.  “Each evening always features such fantastic musical performances, so being able to add in spoken interludes with eminent actresses, a journalist and a popular TV presenter really is the icing on the Christmas cake!”

York Minster’s Christmas Carol Concerts feature music provided by the full York Minster Choir, who will sing a wide repertoire of classical and popular Christmas music, conducted by York Minster’s Director of Music, Robert Sharpe and accompanied on the organ by David Pipe, Assistant Director of Music.  Leading the audience in Christmas carols will be the Yorkshire Volunteers Band.

Tickets have already sold out for Friday 6 December, but there are still seats available in the Aisle areas for Thursday 5 December priced at just £12.  The concerts start at 7.00pm and tickets can be booked online at www.yorkminster.org, by calling the Box Office on 01904 557208 or in person from the admissions desks inside York Minster.

As well as the two carol concerts, visitors to York Minster during December can enjoy a packed programme of events, services and activities. These include a performance of Handel’s Messiah by the York Minster Choir on 14 December with high-profile guest soloists Iestyn Davies, Andrew Kennedy and Sarah Fox, the candlelit Sankta Lucia service on 19 December, and festive craft workshops for all ages on Saturdays 7, 14 and 21 December.
