York Minster's ticket sales beat box office records!
Over 35% of Christmas Carol Concert tickets sold in first 24 hours
It has always been one of the most popular events in the York Minster calendar, but tickets for this year’s Christmas Carol Concerts have sold faster than ever before, with over a third of the tickets for the two concerts (5 & 6 December 2013) sold within the first 24 hours.
Indeed, the most highly-sought after tickets for the Front Nave sold out for Friday 6 December within an hour of being released, with only a small handful of tickets in the area still available for Thursday 5 December.
“The Christmas Carol Concerts are our most popular concerts of the year and are at the beginning of a busy season of services, concerts and festive activities at York Minster,” comments events manager, Stephanie O’Gorman. “It’s only the second year that York Minster has hosted two evenings for the carol concerts, with last year’s two events both achieving capacity audiences. Visitors know they will enjoy a superb evening of music with some fantastic guest readers and it is a wonderful way to start the festive season.”
The concerts are popular with York residents but also attract audiences from across the country and further afield – half of the tickets booked so far this year are by visitors travelling more than 30 minutes, with a number of people booking from overseas. One local person even called from Greece, where they were on holiday, to reserve their tickets!
Ticket are also available for a performance of another Christmas favourite, Handel’s Messiah, which takes place on Saturday 14 December. Featuring the York Minster Choir, regarded as one of the finest cathedral choirs in the country, and world-renowned guest soloists including Iestyn Davies, Andrew Kennedy and Sarah Fox.
