Elton John, one of the world’s most successful artists, has announced that the talented instrumentalists, 2CELLOS will join him for his live show at the Great Yorkshire Showground in June.

The concert takes place in the showground’s Main Ring on Bank Holiday Tuesday 5 June and 2CELLOS will open the show.

The classically trained musicians, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser have performed together since January last year and in that time have become internet sensations, with a major record deal and a management contract. It was last summer that the duo first joined Elton John and his band on their world tour.

Heather Parry, Deputy Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society said: “We are very much looking forward to hosting our first major pop concert and this announcement just underlines what a superb evening it will be.”  The Society owns the Great Yorkshire Showground where events take place every day of the year, except Christmas Day.

As one of the most successful live artists, Elton’s spectacular stage shows present two hours of hits from his back catalogue including classics such as “Bennie and the Jets”, “Crocodile Rock” and “Your Song.” Immediately prior to performing at Harrogate he will be taking part in The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace.

YORKSHIRE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY:

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society was formed in 1837 and is a charity dedicated to supporting the farming industry and rural life.  This year sees its 175thanniversary. The value of the support the Society provides to regional farming and countryside initiatives has risen year on year to almost £1m. It is based at the Regional Agricultural Centre, Harrogate; the RAC includes Fodder, the Society’s regional food shop and café which opened in June 2009. Both the RAC and Fodder have won a number of awards, including in 2010, being named as the Observer Monthly Best Independent Local Retailer.

The Society is the organiser of England’s premier agricultural show, the Great Yorkshire Show and its sister event, Countryside Live. The 2012 Great Yorkshire Show runs from Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 July and last year’s event attracted 135,086 visitors. The record attendance is 135,111, established in 2006. Countryside Live takes place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October at Harrogate and 2012 is the event’s 10thanniversary.

2CELLOS

The meteoric success of 2CELLOS started when former cello rivals Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser decided to join forces. In January 2011, they uploaded a unique cello version of 'Smooth Criminal' by Michael Jackson onto YouTube. Within just a few weeks, their video became a huge viral sensation, receiving over 5 million views.

A month later, 2CELLOS signed a record deal with Sony Masterworks. They were invited by Sir Elton John to join him on his worldwide tour. Their self-titled debut album was released worldwide in the summer of 2011 and they appeared on national television shows including The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Fox & Friends in the U.S., as well as Stefan Raab’s TV Total in Germany. They have also appeared as the special musical guests on Fox’s hit TV series Glee performing 'Smooth Criminal' in the Michael Jackson tribute episode.

Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser are accomplished musicians, both having played the cello since childhood. They recently completed their studies, Luka at the acclaimed Royal Academy of Music in London, and Stjepan at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Luka has performed all over the world at renowned venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus. He has won a series of international prizes including first and special prize at the VII Lutoslawski International Cello Competition (Warsaw, 2009).

Stjepan has also performed around the world in most European countries, South Africa, New Zealand, Asia and the USA, with debuts in London’s Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, South Bank Centre and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. He was the last pupil of Mstislav Rostropovich. In his short career, Stjepan has already been awarded first prize in twenty-one national and international competitions, and he has performed twice for Prince Charles at Buckingham and St James‘s Palace
