CHILDREN TUCK INTO HEALTHY FARMHOUSE BREAKFAST WITH CELEBRITY CHEF ROSEMARY SHRAGER
Celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager shared her tips for eating a healthy British breakfast with pupils from a North Yorkshire primary school – before tucking into her favourite meal of the day with them!
The famous chef dropped into the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s Farmhouse Breakfast event, part of national Farmhouse Breakfast Week, which ends on Saturday (28 JANUARY).
After talking to the pupils from Oatlands Community Junior School in Harrogate about the importance of having a healthy start to the day, she joined in activities at the various workshops before tucking into breakfast.
“Breakfast is such an important meal of the day, it is my favourite, and I can’t believe many people start the day without it,” said the chef.
“It is vital to educate children about the importance of eating a healthy breakfast – without fuel a machine will not work, and without food, a body will not work properly,” she said.
The group of Year 3 and Year 4 pupils from the school rolled up their sleeves and had a go at making butter, creating fruit and vegetable smoothies and making sausages, as well as learning about poultry and egg production.
They then tucked into a delicious breakfast of wholegrain cereals, bread with a choice of bacon, sausage or cheese, fruit and a drink of milk or water, cooked by ‘Ladies in Pigs”.
Farmhouse Breakfast is part of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s wide ranging Education programme, which raises awareness of the vital part played by British farmers in putting the food on our tables.
The workshops were run by Hazel Brow Farm Dairy of Richmond, Daniel Cartwright of Show Off Chefs, Harrogate, and J & M Burton from near York.
