Four-year-old Jessica Fox and five-year-old Kate Donnelly have been chosen to greet the Royal couple, TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, on their arrival at England’s premier agricultural show.

Jessica, who lives in Thirsk, will hand over a Yorkshire white rose buttonhole to The Prince of Wales while Kate, a pupil at Hookstone Chase Primary School, in Harrogate will present a posy of Yorkshire white roses to The Duchess of Cornwall.

Both girls are very excited about their starring roles on the opening day of the 157th Great Yorkshire Show, Tuesday 14 July. The Show is expected to attract more than 130,000 visitors over the three days.

Jessica, whose grandmother is Show Director Bill Cowling’s PA, Janet Fox, is a regular at the event, having first visited the agricultural extravaganza when she was just two-weeks-old.

Her mother, Lynsay said: “Jessica is busy practicing her curtsies at home, they are a bit wobbly at the moment! She is very much looking forward to meeting the Royal couple.”

For Kate, the news has caused huge excitement.

Her mother Emma, the Great Yorkshire Show’s trade stand officer, explained: “Kate loves anything to do with the Royal family and she is already visiting Buckingham Palace with her grandmother later this summer so this has meant her excitement levels are at an all-time high.”

The Royal visitors are just one of the highlights of this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, which runs from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 July at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

A total of 12,651 entries have been received for this year’s farming showcase, just shy of its all-time record of 12,847.

The centrepiece of the show is the Main Ring where the daily programme promises an exciting mix of old and new, including the impressive Grand Cattle Parade, world-class showjumping and this year, for the first time for many years, the thrilling Shetland Pony Grand National. The action-packed race sees youngsters go head-to-head on their speedy mounts around the arena.

The Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion is always a pull for the crowds, with leading high-street names and up-and-coming designers from across the region showcasing their designs.

TV celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager is back entertaining audiences not only with her cooking but her lively conversation too at the Game Cookery Theatre, and, for the first time, the Cheese and Dairy Show will also have its own cheese-inspired cookery stage featuring some of the region’s leading chefs.

The Food Hall is always busy, with plenty to tempt visitors - from the incredible array of stalls selling everything from chili and curry sauces to crisps and cakes.
