Media are invited to attend a press call at the Great Yorkshire Show when international business opportunities will come under the spotlight at England’s premier agricultural Show, courtesy of Government department, UK Trade & Investment Yorkshire & Humber .

Barry Dodd, Chairman of York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Nigel Pulling, CEO, Yorkshire Agricultural Society and LEP Board member will meet international visitors and see the event’s agri-tech section with the latest computerised farm machinery.

Fostering international links in the food and drink and agri-tech sectors is top of the agenda at the Great Yorkshire Show which is the venue for a unique business opportunity. Dates for the event are Tuesday 14 – Thursday 16 July.

Government department UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is exhibiting at the event for the first time and is inviting businesses to boost their overseas activities by taking advantage of mini export seminars and one to one clinics focused on the two sectors. Joining the UK team on Wednesday 15 July will be UKTI colleagues from India, France, Belgium and Russia.

Nadine Vandenbroucke is from Brussels, Anthony Cooper, India, Gaganjot Kaur, India, John Gleave, from France and Cathy Cottrell from Russia (biographies available)

This builds on the UKTI Y&H initiative with Serbia at the Great Yorkshire Show last year which resulted in a successful trade mission to Central Europe and export orders between Serbia and Yorkshire, plus the supply of Yorkshire cheeses and beers for the Queen’s Birthday Party at the Ambassador’s residence in Belgrade.

Susan Waterson, UKTI Deputy Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “The Great Yorkshire Show is a fantastic opportunity to meet businesses and see how to take the best of the county to the world. Yorkshire companies can thrive and grow in markets overseas and the UK agri-tech sector is lively and world-leading.

“This summer, with Milan Expo and the UK’s theme of feeding the planet, there has never been a better time to galvanise UK companies in agri-tech and help them win business abroad.”

Echoing her words, Nigel Pulling Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society said: “Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of business is done every year at the Great Yorkshire Show and extending and promoting international opportunities abroad is extremely important to us as an organisation, and particularly in these sectors. I would urge anyone with a proactive business attitude to take advantage of this useful and potentially profitable opportunity to meet the UKTI team.”

Nigel is also a Board member of York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership. The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is the organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show.
