GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW'S ANIMAL MAGIC AS TICKETS GO ON SALE

Tickets for England’s premier agricultural event, the Great Yorkshire Show, are poised to go on sale on Monday (3 March). The Show - which will be the 156th - takes place on Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 July, and will highlight the best of British farming and country life over the three days. Last year over 135,000 visitors came through the gates of the showground on the edge of Harrogate enjoying everything from fashion shows to food tastings, and from top class show jumping to sheep shearing and pole climbing.

As always, the animals remain the main focus of the event with classes for cattle, sheep, pigs and horses at the heart of the action. More than 1,000 cattle will be competing for the prestigious awards and for the first time in the show’s history there will be classes for British White cattle, one of the UK’s oldest breeds which is listed on the Watchlist of the Rare Breed Survival Trust. Also new to the event are competitions for female sheep shearers.

The fashion shows held four times daily in the Skipton Building Society Pavilion, are always popular, featuring collections from national high street names as well as from up and coming designers from the region’s colleges.

In the Main Ring, Lorenzo, the equestrian dynamo, will entertain the crowds each day and the “pomp and circumstance” will be provided by the Yorkshire Volunteers Band.

Elsewhere the event features:

  • One of Britain’s largest cheese and dairy shows
  • One Man and His Pig competition
  • Food Hall – with superb regional food and drink
  • Cookery Demonstrations
  • International show jumping
  • Demonstrations of country skills including dry stone walling, stick making and pole climbing
  • Great British Pole Climbing Championships
  • Discovery Zone for children

And more than 1,000 trade stands selling everything from tractors to designer clothing.

Tickets are available from 9am Monday 3 March either from the show’s website - www.greatyorkshireshow.co.uk, by calling 01423 541222 or in person from the Society’s offices at the Regional Agricultural Centre, Railway Road, Harrogate. HG2 8NZ. There are savings on tickets booked in advance.
