Up-and-coming designers will be rubbing shoulders with the established elite when they present their collections on the catwalk at England’s premier agricultural and rural showcase.

More than 135,000 visitors are expected to flock to the Great Yorkshire Show, which opens its gates in Harrogate from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 July 2014.

Many of the visitors to the 156th annual show, organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, will jostle for a seat in the popular Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion, which plays host to four-times daily fashion shows.

Luxury lingerie and swimwear retailer Rigby and Peller, which opened its first north of England store in Harrogate earlier in the year, and internationally-acclaimed country wear specialist Barbour, which has teamed up with Boroughbridge-based artist Julie Dodsworth, will be making their Great Yorkshire Show debuts. While Cleckheaton-based fashion wholesaler Alexia Designs, renowned for its stunning occasion-wear clothing, will also be at the show for the first time.

Great Yorkshire Show Director Bill Cowling is delighted with the line-up for this year’s runway. “The fashion shows are always one of the highlights of the Great Yorkshire and apart from being an important part of the event, they enable us to highlight the importance of the textile industry and its links within the region,” said Mr Cowling.

“The catwalk shows enable visitors to see the full cycle of production, from the sheep in the competitive classes, to the sheep shearing and wool production competitions, to the final designs on the runway,” he added.

The Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion is not just about well-known high-street names – up and coming designers from fashion colleges across the region also present their collections in front of the fashion-loving visitors.

Students from Harrogate College of Art and Design and Northallerton College will be unveiling stunning, one-off pieces guaranteed to turn heads, while collections from students at Hull College of Art and Design and Doncaster College will also be gracing the catwalk.

Keighley-based menswear brand Brook Taverner is back, showcasing its current collection as well as unveiling its new autumn/winter collection featuring Moons fabric woven in Yorkshire while high-street retailer Hobbs is also making a welcome return to the catwalk at the show.

The shows are produced by Morton Gledhill – The Fashion Team, hair and make-up is courtesy of Bradford College.

Elsewhere on the showground, more than 5,000 of Britain’s best sheep, cattle and pigs will be competing for the coveted championship rosettes, while the event also hosts top show jumping classes and acts as a showcase for the region’s best food and drink.

Main ring attraction Lorenzo will astound visitors with his thrilling equestrian displays, while the pole climbing championships return to the show after a 12-month break. The Yorkshire Volunteers Band will provide the ‘pomp and circumstance’ throughout the show.

Top chefs from across the region, including TV personality Rosemary Shrager, will be sharing their culinary skills with visitors at the Game Cookery Theatre while the Garden Show is a must for green-fingered visitors. And if you love to shop, then you won’t be disappointed, with more than 1,000 trade stands selling everything from tractors to designer clothing!
