Living Woodlands – Inspiring Photos Wanted

Report this content

Photographers young and old are being urged to get out their cameras and capture some inspiring images of their favourite woodland.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society, organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show, is challenging people to celebrate the splendour of the UK’s woodlands and forests by taking part in a photographic competition.

With the theme “Living Woodlands”, the Society is urging “snappers” to head for their local woodland and take seasonal pictures, depicting the area in either spring, summer, autumn or winter.

The best 32 images will go on display in the Forestry Pavilion at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, which runs from Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 July. The Great Yorkshire is England’s premier agricultural show attracting around 130,000 visitors each year. The event includes a dedicated forestry area and pavilion, with demonstrations and a wide range of classes – from woodland management to marquetry to woodturning.

Visitors to the show, which is held at the 250-acre showground on the edge of Harrogate, will be asked to vote for their favourite photograph, with the winners announced after the event.

The competition is split into two categories – juniors (up to and including 16 year olds) and seniors (aged 17 and above).Winners in each category will be awarded £50 Amazon vouchers for photographic equipment, and the overall winner will receive a further £100 Amazon voucher.

All entries, of woodlands or individual trees, need to reach the Yorkshire Agricultural Society by Monday 2 June 2014 for a chance of success. For more information, or for an entry form, visit the website at http://greatyorkshireshow.co.uk/visitors/competitions/woodland-photographic-competition

Elsewhere at the Great Yorkshire Show there will be thousands of animals competing for the championship awards, top class show jumping, an extensive exhibition of regional food and drink and miles and miles of shopping opportunities.
