Thousands of primary school children from across Yorkshire will be descending on Harrogate next week for the annual Countryside Days extravaganza.

The popular two-day event, which is regularly over-subscribed, is a mix of fun and education and is organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

Held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, the youngsters have the chance to get up close and personal with animals and learn more about farming and the countryside.

Each day, they can try their hands at a wide variety of traditional countryside crafts and skills, which include fly fishing, willow weaving, bread and butter making, rag rugging, dry stone walling and even horse logging.

This year, there are a host of new attractions to keep the coach loads of children, from schools as far afield as Skipton and Selby, and Malton to Middlesborough, entertained.

These include papermaking from Niki Hampson, of Pulpitations, and the opportunity to test their skills with the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society is the organiser of the annual Great Yorkshire Show which this year runs from Tuesday 9 – Thursday 11 July and its sister event, Countryside Live, which takes place in October.
