SEARCH FOR A TALENTED SHOWJUMPER

The show will go on for international horsewoman Tina Fletcher when she comes to Yorkshire later this month to search for a talented young show jumper at this year’s Countryside Live.

The 2012 Olympic team reserve rider has more than 30 years’ competition experience but recently suffered a serious ankle injury whilst competing at Spruce Meadows in Canada, in the final round of the world’s richest Grand Prix.

But Tina, and her Olympic-medal winning husband Graham Fletcher, will be in the judges’ hot seat at the popular ‘X’ Factor style competition at the event in Harrogate which takes place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October. Countryside Live, the little sister of the Great Yorkshire Show, celebrates its 10thbirthday this year.

Organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, the event attracts thousands of visitors from across the country with classes for cattle, sheep and horses, demonstrations of rural skills, country crafts and more.

One of the star attractions has always been the Search for a Talented Show Jumper competition, introduced three years ago and judged by Graham and Tina.

Aimed at young show jumpers aged 10 and above, riders are put through their paces over the weekend, with the final taking place at 4pm on the final day.

The closing date for entries is Monday 8 October – with young riders from across the region being urged to get involved. As well as a cash prize, there’s also the chance to win a day with the Fletchers at their Oxfordshire yard. Last year it was Polly Douglas, from Barnard Castle, County Durham, who beat off stiff competition to take the winning title.

Anyone wanting more information or to enter the competition should contact Amanda Stoddart-West on 01423 546231 or email at amandaw@yas.co.uk
