Entries are flooding in for the equine section of Countryside Live, the little sister of the Great Yorkshire Show. This element has grown dramatically since it was first introduced by popular demand to the rural and farming showcase in 2008.

Countryside Live is well on track for record entries in this the event’s tenth anniversary year with equine figures currently standing at 290 (the highest ever) compared with last year’s best of 225. Entries will continue to increase as the closing date for the Talented Show Jumper competition hosted by Graham and Tina Fletcher is not until 1st October.

Dates for Countryside Live are Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October, with the equine classes taking place both in the famous Main Ring at the Great Yorkshire Showground, and in the indoor arena.  Classes range from ridden, to in hand, to the children’s fancy dress, and a new section for ridden heavy horses has been introduced.

For the first time the event will include a new competition encompassing both show jumping and cross country. Entitled The Northern Show Cross Series Final, it is sponsored by Bishop Burton College and takes place in the Main Ring. The top ten riders from heats which have been running across Yorkshire since April will compete in what is sure to be a nail biting final. The Show Cross action kicks off at 12.30pm on Sunday with a testing course combining show jumps and rustic fences.

The equine classes begin at 9am on Saturday with the ridden Mountain and Moorland – a qualifier for Olympia, and at the same time on Sunday with the ridden Coloured Horses and Ponies.
