Exploring supply chain opportunities from the perspective of the supermarket and personal insights from two Yorkshire producers will be in the spotlight for the Future Farmers of Yorkshire at the group's next meeting. The three speakers, who include Sainsbury's Head of Agriculture, will cover supply chain opportunities at the event on Thursday 23 January. The evening is free and takes place at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

Sainsburys intends to double the amount of British food on its shelves by 2020 and Sue Lockhart, Head of Agriculture says she is passionate about this commitment and wants to tell producers and consumers about the growth of their work with British farmers.

"Sourcing food closer to home and developing even stronger links with farmers is a key part of continuing to lead on fresh food," said Ms Lockhart.

Yorkshire producers, James Potter of Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs and Angus Wielkopolski, goats milk supplier and founder of Yorkshire Dairy Goats, will explain how they have successfully navigated their relationship with the retailer in order to grow their businesses.

Future Farmers of Yorkshire was launched in November 2010 and brings together in a social environment younger farmers, vets and industry supporters to share knowledge, experiences and develop networks. Based at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, events are organised throughout the year with key industry speakers.

The event begins at 7.15pm with a light supper. For more information, contact Elizabeth Hudson, Project Manager at the Yorkshire Agricultural Society on 07702 598108 or elizabethh@yas.co.uk
