YOUNG SURVIVAL COALITION PROMOTES STACY M. LEWIS TO CHIEF PROGRAM OFFICER, DEPUTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE
New Role Emphasizes YSC’s Commitment to the More Than 250,000
Young Women Living with Breast Cancer in the U.S.
There are more than a quarter of a million young women living in the U.S. today who were diagnosed with breast cancer before their 41st birthday. As part of a strategic realignment to bolster its ability to create and deliver programs to reach more of these young women, Young Survival Coalition (YSC) announced today that Stacy M. Lewis has been promoted to Chief Program Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, effective immediately. She previously served as YSC Vice President of Programming.
In this newly-created role, Stacy will develop strategies to expand the scope of YSC’s programs and ensure they remain relevant, effective, and in-line with YSC’s mission to provide comprehensive services so that no young woman facing breast cancer feels alone.
“During her six-year tenure at YSC, Stacy has been an invaluable member of our leadership team,” said Jennifer Merschdorf, YSC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Her accomplishments during this time include growing our Programs Department from one staff member to a nationwide team, and creating programs and educational materials such as YSC’s Metastatic Breast Cancer Navigator; our Factor Series workshops on topics such as fertility, genetics, reconstruction and breast health knowledge; and our upcoming Post-Treatment Navigator, which will be available in early 2012.”
Prior to joining YSC in 2005, Stacy was Deputy Director/Director of Programs for SHARE, a not-for-profit organization that offers support to women with breast or ovarian cancer, as well as their families and friends. Before that, Stacy held various positions with the American Cancer Society, including Community Executive/Regional Director of Breast Health. She began her career at the Center for Family Resources, where she served as a Social Service Worker and Health Educator.
Stacy earned her B.S. from William Paterson University and has received credentials as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. She is also a graduate of the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD Institute, a scientific education course for breast cancer advocates. Stacy provides presentations as a keynote speaker and conducts workshops at various national and international conferences. She has testified in front of the New York Senate, Assembly, and Delegations. In addition, she effectively advocates for relevant healthcare issues on both the national and local levels.
