DETROIT – Effective today, Lutheran Social Services of Michigan (LSSM) has acquired TRS, also known as Total Rehab Services, a Clinton Township business that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy among its rehabilitative service providers.

“This strategic acquisition allows LSSM to serve the whole person, through a comprehensive menu of rehab options, across our portfolio of services,” says LSSM CEO Mark Stutrud. “We also see tremendous opportunity to deliver this service to our existing service lines, including in-home care, group homes and residential rehab services.”

The purchase comes at an exciting time in the growth model of the non-profit organization. LSSM’s recent strategic planning positions it to offer a continuum of care throughout the life of its constituents. This acquisition expands the organization’s core competencies, bringing in-house a portfolio of rehab services, according to Ken Ulrich, LSSM VP, Human Resources.

The acquisition brings on board TRS principals, Mark Kincer and Brent Hall, in leadership positions within LSSM. TRS’ existing relationships, clients and staff will join within the LSSM framework.

Devoted to human services, TRS has “a huge affinity for our mission and our values and are aligned with us as a faith-based organization,” Ulrich says.

LSSM has been steadily growing its home care business since acquiring the Home Care Assistance franchise in Michigan in 2011. Expanding rehab services is a crucial component of this growth trajectory.

TRS agreed to the sale because the two organizations have similar missions and align from a faith perspective. TRS principals are eager to meld their strong company with the expansive customer base and reach of LSSM, one of the largest non-profits in the state of Michigan.

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan is dedicated to creating communities of service that meet the needs of people, promoting human dignity, advocating equality and justice. Established in 1934, Lutheran Social Services of Michigan serves the Lower Peninsula of Michigan with more than 80 programs in 44 cities. Lutheran Social Services provides a wide variety of services for children and families, senior adults, refugees and persons with disabilities.
