STUDIO CITY, Calif. – The L.A. Times 2011 Readers Choice Awards conferred the Best Yoga/Pilates in the Valley/Ventura honor on Yoga Shelter’s Studio City venue.
“Since we opened nearly two years ago, we have been dedicated to providing the best yoga in L.A.,” says founder and owner Eric Paskel. “Our sense of community really runs deep. We have become a shelter in the chaos of Hollywood. Everybody’s equal here – it doesn’t matter what they do for a living or how famous they are. It’s about connecting with down-to-earth people over a great yoga class.”
More than 40,000 people voted for the awards, according to the L.A. Times.
The honor continues a trend of awards for the growing company, which has five studios currently with plans to open several more across the country this year and into the future.
Yoga Shelter’s four Michigan studios were voted Best of Detroit 2011 by Real Detroit Weekly. Eric Paskel opened the first Yoga Shelter studio in 2004 in West Bloomfield, Mich., and has opened a new studio every year since, with locations now in Birmingham, Royal Oak, Grosse Pointe and Los Angeles, and another set to open in downtown Detroit this fall.
The Shelter serves more than 1 million students and counting. Its brand of Yoga Rocks is unique in the way classes offer a mix of mainstream music, Vedanta inspiration and great workout for the mind and body.
